State Medical Board of Ohio Issues

The State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) issues licenses and oversees the practice of allopathic and osteopathic physicians along with other disciplines under the authority of the Medical Practices Act, Chapter 4731, of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC). The SMBO also regulates physician assistants and other members of the healthcare team as stated in various chapters of the ORC. The SMBO’s regulatory responsibilities include investigating complaints against applicants and licensees and taking disciplinary action against those who violate the public health and safety standards set by the General Assembly and the SMBO.   SMBO CME Audits

  The SMBO conducts random CME compliance audits for physicians. If you are selected for an audit, please follow the instructions in the email that you received from CE Broker.

  AAFP/OAFP Membership Simplifies Your Response to SMBO CME Audits
  Always being mindful of the need to eliminate administrative burden for our members, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians worked with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) to simplify the process for our members to respond to CME audit requests. An enhanced member benefit that minimizes the need for Academy members to report their CME to both the AAFP and CE Broker, the AAFP has entered an agreement with CE Broker to share CME information with CE Broker.

  Since November 2019, for AAFP/OAFP members who are licensed in Ohio, CME activities produced by the AAFP or the OAFP will be sent to CE Broker. Upon completion of the CME activity, the physician will still need to report the CME to the AAFP, but the AAFP will share reported CME for AAFP or OAFP produced CME to CE Broker so that if your CME records are audited, CE Broker will already have those CME records.

  At this time, only AAFP or OAFP produced CME can be shared directly with CE Broker, thus enhancing the value of AAFP/OAFP produced CME. The AAFP and the OAFP are still working on a means to share members entire CME record with CE Broker, and that service may be available in the future. Until then, the value of AAFP/OAFP CME is enhanced due to the direct reporting feature that greatly simplifies the CME response process for members who are audited.
