State Medical Board of Ohio Issues

The State Medical Board of Ohio (SMBO) issues licenses and oversees the practice of allopathic and osteopathic physicians along with other disciplines under the authority of the Medical Practices Act, Chapter 4731, of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC). The SMBO also regulates physician assistants and other members of the healthcare team as stated in various chapters of the ORC. The SMBO’s regulatory responsibilities include investigating complaints against applicants and licensees and taking disciplinary action against those who violate the public health and safety standards set by the General Assembly and the SMBO.
