Amazon Customer 5 out of 5 starsAn excellent app, perfect, just what I was looking for. I like to read whenever I get a bit of spare time, lunchtimes at work, flights etc. I've always got my phone on me which means I've always got a book to read.
It's got all the usual Kindle functions, font, text size, background colour are all adjustable.
If I'm sitting in a café and I haven't got my glasses with me all I need to do is increase the text size, if I come across a word I don't understand all I have to do is touch it and the dictionary page automatically opens with an explanation.
I don't believe in filling my phone up with apps just for the sake of it like some people do, this is the only app I've got and I can't find any faults with it.
I used this before I got myself a Kindle - it was a great way to access the books available on Kindle and made reading them nicer than on a laptop, lighter, easier to hold, etc. It also convinced me that I liked the Kindle format. Unfortunately the tablets screen got broken so I had to look at what would be best to replace it with. Having received a new smart phone for Christmas that will take on the other jobs I'd purchased the tablet for I instead decided to purchase a Kindle which is specially designed for eBooks. (I've not regretted that decision - really loving my Kindle Paperwhite.) If you have a table already though this is a great alternative to a Kindle (unless you spend lots and lots of time reading - if you do get a Kindle. ). I'm not sure that I'll install this on the smart phone though as I suspect the screen would be a bit too small for it.
Kindle is slick and easy to use on my tablet, and it offers a different way to peruse books, magazines and articles from my admittedly die hard in the wool adoration of ye olde booke in thy hands way of consuming reading matter.
I love technology, especially robots with big eyes, but couldn't quite tear myself away from the hypnotic lure of printed books (just one more page, just one more. eyes blurry, swimming, tired, ends up asleep with book lying on my head at a funny angle) and cheat on them with a new mistress, the all electronic Miss Kindle.
I did. I gave in. I downloaded it, avoided it a few days, gave it a cursory eye, hmmm, maybe I should just try one little book. So I typed in cats, well, its what's in my mind almost 24 hours a day, and this cat detective genre popped up. Ooh this looks goodie! I used a free credit to buy the Leger mysteries, 1st one, and a rip roaring boys own Biigles with vintage cars style mystery, and an article on Japanese Robotics. Yeah, diverse man.
Its dead easy to find what you want, even if you don't know what you want, and there's lots of low or free cost decent books to be had, like the Lacey Dearie series.
As I have keratoconus, I find reading the Kindle hurts my eye if I use it too long, so to ease that a bit I fiddled with the colour and text size settings to sepia, made a difference, but its easier on my eyes to read a physical book. I found it a bit hard to get lost in the book like you do with a 'real' book, but curling up on the sofa helps, and also makes me feel more like a cat, which is nice. Not all books are available, or limited choice, only one book about Beck, the brilliant absurdist indie singer, for instance, but I love the fact you can find books not available in Water stones or even a second hand bookshop.
It would be nice to sort by price and it rhymes too, please nice Kindle techno bods, can you do this in the next upgrade.
Oh and the guy looks nice reading the kindle in the logo, kind of alone but for a tree and a book, I love that logo, the little silhouette of a man, scaramouche will you do the fandango, etc, etc.
